Throughout the year, parishes have second collections for special causes and organizations. Some are for global and national organizations, while others are for local causes specifically for our diocese.

Black and Indian Missions

The funds from this collection are distributed as grants to dioceses throughout the United States, supporting and strengthening evangelization programs for our Black and Indian brothers and sisters. Click here to learn more about this collection.

Catholic Charities

The mission of Catholic Charities is to provide service to people in need. To alleviate poverty in our nation, Catholic Charities offers affordable housing, food banks and pantries, disaster relief, healthcare, refugee and immigration services, and much more. Catholic Campaign for Human Development
The Collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development addresses the root causes of poverty in America through promotion and support of community-controlled, self-help organizations and transformative education. Click here to learn more about this collection.

Catholic Communications Campaign

Donations to this collection help fund the efforts of the Church to reach out to Catholics and others through print, television, internet, and radio. The funds raised benefit both our diocese and national programs. The CCC helps the Church spread the Gospel message in the U.S. and in developing countries using modern media tools to inform, inspire, and enlighten. Click here to learn more about this collection.

Catholic Home Missions

In many rural areas around the world, parishes struggle to keep their doors open due to a lack of financial resources. This collection goes to efforts to strengthen the Catholic Church in the United States and its territories in 85 Latin and Eastern Catholic dioceses. Catholic Home Missions funds a wide range of pastoral services, including evangelization, religious education, and the maintenance of mission parishes, the training of seminarians and lay ministers, and ministry with ethnic groups. Catholic Relief Services

Catholic Relief Services helps to enact the mission of the Bishops of the United States which is serving those in need overseas and here at home. They provide support and resources in emergencies, fight disease and poverty, and work to show the face of Christ to the most vulnerable and impoverished among us. Collection for Aid to the Church in Central and Eastern Europe
This collection provides aid by the Subcommittee on Aid to the Church in Central and Eastern Europe. It focuses on training seminarians and lay leaders, supporting social service programs, youth ministry, pastoral and catechetical centers, schools, church construction and renovation, and evangelization through Catholic media. Church in Latin America

The Collection for the Church in Latin America supports pastoral programs throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. The programs that are aided by your support include the work of evangelization, formation of laity, religious and seminarians, as well as youth ministry and catechesis. Disaster Assistance
The Disaster Assistance Fund is collected in case of a disaster or emergency, such as a flood. The funds are used to aid the local community in reconstruction or whatever the need may be.

Guatemala Mission
Project San Pedro is set up to ensure that children, who often end their education prematurely to help support their families, can complete school. Students are given financial assistance to pay for school. They are also provided nutritional supplements, clothing allowances, medical services from our on-site clinic, and assistance to live in a safe and clean home. Holy Land Collection

On Good Friday, there is a Pontifical collection for the support of the Holy Land, and for those pastoral, charitable, educational, and social works which the Church supports in the Holy Land for the welfare of their Christian brethren and of the local communities. These Holy Places are some of the most important for our faith, so the Pope asks for contributions for its support. Click here to learn more about this collection.

Infirm Priests
This collection is for the support of local priests in our diocese with their medical needs, especially in retirement.

Peter’s Pence

The Peter’s Pence Collection enables the Holy Father to respond with emergency financial assistance to requests to aid the neediest throughout the world—those who suffer as a result of war, oppression, and natural disasters. It likewise provides the faithful with a tangible opportunity to not only empower the weak, defenseless, and voiceless, but also sustain those who suffer. Retirement Fund for Religious

In the United States, hundreds of religious communities lack financial resources sufficient to meet the retirement and healthcare needs of aging members. The Retirement Fund for Religious provides financial support for the men and women religious that are in need. Since religious work for little to no salary, they do not have sufficient retirement savings. For giving their lives to the Church, we offer support in gratitude for their service. Seminary Collection
This collection is for the financial needs of the seminarians in our diocese.

Solidarity Fund for the Church in Africa

Through the Pastoral Solidarity Fund for the Church in Africa the Subcommittee on the Church in Africa provides grants to finance pastoral projects that support the maintenance and growth of the Church in Africa. Catholic Appeal of South Carolina
The Catholic Appeal of South Carolina is the annual effort that puts faith into action by supporting the critical ministries, parishes, and schools of the Diocese of Charleston, which encompasses the entire state of South Carolina. Click here to learn more about this collection.

The Catholic University of America

Catholic University is the national research university of the Catholic Church. Gifts to the National Collection — the only second collection taken for higher education in the U.S. — support students during this crucial time and help the University conduct critical research that will serve parishes and dioceses throughout the country. World Mission Sunday
World Mission Sunday is a day that we recommit ourselves as Catholics to the mission to evangelize. The collection funds the Pontifical Mission Societies, which supports the creation of new churches until they can support themselves. Additionally, they offer not only spiritual support but also food, education, and medical care to the most vulnerable communities in the Pope’s missions.
