Having moved the Diocese of Charleston offices previously located at 1662 Ingram Road, Charleston, South Carolina, to the Pastoral Center located at 901 Orange Grove Road, Charleston, South Carolina; and
Having ensured the employees of the Diocese of Charleston are to be provided for at the Chapel of the Holy Family located at the Pastoral Center, and, therefore, the good of souls suffers no detriment; and
Having sought and heard the counsel of the Presbyteral Council of the Diocese of Charleston on October 20, 2015; and in accordance with the norms of canon 1222 §2 and by testimony of this document;
I HEREBY DECREE the chapel located at 1662 Ingram Road, Charleston, be relegated to profane but not sordid use. The grave reasons that motivate this decision were presented in full to the Presbyteral Council, namely:
- The resources of the Diocese of Charleston are insufficient for preserving and maintaining the chapel in a good and useable condition;
- Other sources of revenue are not currently available for such purpose; and
- The move of the Diocese of Charleston offices to the new Pastoral Center, which includes the Chapel of the Holy Family, further promotes this decision as there are no longer Catholic Faithful employed in the adjacent building which formerly housed diocesan offices.
I direct that this decree be published on the website for the Diocese of Charleston, sccatholic.org, which will be presumed the official notification of this action. A petition for revocation or emendation of this decree is subject to canons 1732 – 1739.
The relegation of the chapel at 1662 Ingram Road, Charleston, to profane but not sordid use is to become effective Monday, October 26, 2015, nothing the contrary withstanding.
Given at Charleston, South Carolina, on the 21st day of October 2015.
