Decree Establishing the
Territorial Boundaries for
Immaculate Conception Parish, Goose Creek,
and Revising the Territorial Boundaries of
St. Philip Benizi Parish, Moncks Corner,
and St. John the Beloved Parish, Summerville

Whereas establishing territorial boundaries for Immaculate Conception Parish in Goose Creek will better serve the pastoral needs of its dynamic and expanding community; and

Whereas the best use of available priest personnel necessitates a revision to the territorial boundaries for the adjacent parishes; and

Having sought and heard the counsel of the Presbyteral Council of the Diocese of Charleston on May 18, 2021, in accordance with the norms of canon 515 §2, and by testimony of this document;

I HEREBY ESTABLISH the territorial boundaries for Immaculate Conception Parish, Goose Creek, and revise the territorial boundaries of St. Philip Benizi Parish, Moncks Corner, and St. John the Beloved Parish, Summerville.

The established territorial boundaries for the Parish of Immaculate Conception, Goose Greek, shall include:

All that portion of Berkeley and Charleston Counties enclosed by a line beginning at a midpoint of the Cooper River due east of the southern endpoint of Cypress Gardens Road (SC-9); then west along that imaginary line to Cypress Gardens Road (SC-9); proceeding north and then northwesterly along Cypress Gardens Road (SC-9) to its intersection with US Highway 52; then proceeding north on US Highway 52 to its intersection with Oakley Road; continuing northwest along Oakley Road to its intersection with Branch Road; then north along Branch Road to its intersection with US Highway 17 A (South Live Oak Drive); then northeast along US Highway 17 A (South Live Oak Drive) to its intersection with Black Tom Road; then proceeding westerly along Black Tom Road to its intersection with US Highway 176; continuing southeast along US Highway 176 to its intersection with US Highway 17A (North Main Street); then southwest along US Highway 17 A (North Main Street) to its intersection with Interstate Highway 26; proceeding southeast along Interstate Highway 26 to its intersection with US Highway 78 (University Boulevard); continuing southeasterly along US Highway 78 (University Boulevard) to its merger with N.A.D. Road; continuing northeasterly along N.A.D. Road to its merger with Goose Creek Road at the Charleston-Berkeley county line; continuing northeasterly along Goose Creek Road to its merger with Old State Road; continuing along Old State Road to its intersection with Red Bank Road; then proceeding east along Red Bank Road to the point at which it bends south; from that point, following an imaginary line due east to a midpoint of the Cooper River; then proceeding north along the midpoint of the Cooper River to a point due east of the southern endpoint of Cypress Gardens Road (SC-9); and ending there.

The revised territorial boundaries for the Parish of St. Philip Benizi, Moncks Corner, shall include:

All that portion of Berkeley County enclosed by a line beginning at the confluence of the Cooper River and the East Branch Cooper River; continuing east then northeast along the midpoint of the East Branch Cooper River; then southeasterly along the midpoint of Quimby Creek; continuing along the midpoint of Quimby Creek under SC-41 to Washaw Creek; proceeding northeasterly along the midpoint of Washaw Creek to its intersection with Steed Creek Road (SC-133); proceeding southeasterly along Steed Creek Road (SC- 133) until its intersection with the Berkeley-Charleston county line; then northeasterly along the Berkeley-Charleston county line to the junction of the Berkeley-Charleston­Georgetown county lines; proceeding northwesterly along the Berkeley-Georgetown county line (Santee River) to the junction of the Berkeley-Georgetown-Williamsburg county lines; proceeding northwesterly along the Berkeley-Williamsburg county line (Santee River) to the junction of the Berkeley-Williamsburg-Clarendon county lines; proceeding southwesterly along the Berkeley-Clarendon county line to the junction of the Berkeley-Clarendon-Orangeburg county lines (Lake Marion); then proceeding south along the Berkeley-Orangeburg county line to US Highway 176; proceeding southeast along US Highway 176 to its intersection with Black Tom Road; proceeding northeast along Black Tom Road to its intersection with US Highway 17A (South Live Oak Drive); proceeding southwesterly along US Highway 17A (South Live Oak Drive) to its intersection with Branch Road; proceeding south along Branch Road to its intersection with Oakley Road; proceeding southeasterly along Oakley Road to its intersection with US Highway 52; proceeding south along US Highway 52 to its intersection with Cypress Gardens Road (SC-9); proceeding southeasterly along Cypress Gardens Road (SC-9) to its endpoint; then proceeding due east along an imaginary line to a midpoint of the Cooper River; proceeding north up the midpoint of the Cooper River to the confluence of the Cooper River and the East Branch Cooper River; and ending there.

The revised territorial boundaries for the Parish of St. John the Beloved, Summerville, shall include:

All that portion of Dorchester, Berkeley, and Charleston Counties enclosed by a line beginning at the point Ladson Road intersects Dorchester Road (SC-642); then west along Dorchester Road (SC-642) to its intersection with Old Trolley Road (SC-199); continuing north along Old Trolley Road (SC-199) to its intersection with US Highway 17A; then proceeding west along US Highway 17A to its intersection with Tupperway Drive (SC-35); continuing west along Tupperway Drive (SC-35) to its intersection with Orangeburg Road (SC-22); proceeding north on Orangeburg Road (SC-22) to its intersection with Mallard Road (SC-58); then proceeding northeast along Mallard Road (SC-58) and continuing across the Berkeley-Charleston county line as Jedburg Road (SC- 16); then to the intersection of Jedburg Road (SC-16) and US Highway 176; proceeding southeast on US Highway 176 to its intersection with US Highway 17A; proceeding southwest on US Highway 17A to its intersection with Interstate Highway 26; then southeast along Interstate Highway 26 to its intersection with College Park Road (SC-62); proceeding southwest along College Park Road (SC-62) to its intersection with US Highway 78; then southeast along US Highway 78 to its intersection with Ladson Road (SC-76 in Charleston County and SC-230 in Dorchester County); proceeding southwest along Ladson Road (SC-76 in Charleston County and SC-230 in Dorchester County); to its intersection with Dorchester Road (SC-642); and ending there.

I further direct that this decree be published on the website for the Diocese of Charleston, charlestondiocese.org, which will be presumed the official notification of this action.

The establishment of the territorial boundaries for Immaculate Conception Parish, Goose Creek, and the revisions to the territorial boundaries of St. Philip Benizi Parish, Moncks Corner, and St. John the Beloved Parish, Summerville, are to become effective October 1, 2021, nothing the contrary withstanding.
