Whereas in 2010, the Catholic Community of Sumter was established through the merger and consolidation of St. Anne Parish and St. Jude Parish, both located in Sumter, South Carolina; and
Whereas the members of the Catholic Community of Sumter and its pastor, Rev. Frank Palmieri, CRM, have made known their desire to amend the community’s name to reflect its heritage and as an expression of unity; and
Having considered the law and the facts;
Having sought and heard the counsel of the Presbyteral Council of the Diocese of Charleston on January 26, 2016, and in accordance with canon 515 §2 and by testimony of this document; and
Having determined that the good of souls require it;
I HEREBY DECREE the Faithful of the Sumter Catholic Community is placed under the patronage of Saint Anne and Saint Jude. In addition, from this day forward, this Catholic Community is to be known as St. Anne and St. Jude Parish, which is now their canonical title, and I direct that this decree be published on the website for the Diocese of Charleston, sccatholic.org, which will be presumed the official notification of this action.
The pastor is to make suitable provision so that patrons are properly honored and revered.
This Decree has an effective date of February 14, 2016, nothing the contrary withstanding. The time limit for a written recourse against this administrative act and decree is ten canonical days from the publication of the decree in accord with canon 1734 §2
