Whereas the new Church of Saint Anne and Saint Jude in Sumter was dedicated on 2 June 2023 and the parish has no need of the former property of Saint Jude Church at 611 West Oakland A venue in Sumter, South Carolina, and
Whereas the Pastor of the parish of Saint Anne and Saint Jude, with the concurrence of the parish Finance Council, intends to sell the former campus of the parish of Saint Jude, and
Whereas no religious purpose can be found for the future use of this property by Catholics, and
Whereas the Presbyteral Council of the Diocese of Charleston was consulted on 7 May 2024 and unanimously endorsed the reduction of that church to profane but not sordid use, so now
I decree in accordance with canon 1222 that the former Church of Saint Jude in Sumter, South Carolina is reduced to profane but not sordid use and is no longer to be used for divine worship.
I further direct the Pastor of the Church of Saint Anne and Saint Jude to arrange the removal and appropriate storage or use of all the sacred furnishings of the former Church of Saint Jude.
