About the Myrtle Beach Deanery of South Carolina

If ocean breezes, beaches, amusement parks, shopping, fishing, and golf are what you are looking for in a community, then the Myrtle Beach Deanery is right for you. Named after the Pee Dee Native American tribe that occupied this area in historic times, this area includes Murrells Inlet, Myrtle Beach, Longs, and Florence.

  • Myrtle Beach, with 100 golf courses, is also called the Golf Capital of the World. For sports lovers, the area is home to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans baseball, a Chicago Cubs farm franchise, and the Myrtle Beach FC, a pro soccer team playing in the National Premier Soccer League. The largest university is Coastal Carolina University, a national sea-grant institution that owns part of a barrier island, which serves as a natural laboratory.
  • Murrells Inlet, once a sleepy fishing village, has grown along with the rest of the Grand Strand into a popular tourist and retirement area. It is known for its Murrells Inlet Marshwalk, a ½-mile long boardwalk overlooking a salt marsh.
  • Florence, the furthest inland, forms the core of the Myrtle Beach Deanery of South Carolina. Its location at the intersection of I-95 and I-20, approximately halfway between New York City and Miami, Florida, has welcomed nine foreign affiliated companies and fourteen Fortune 500 companies to the region. Institutions of higher education in a and around Florence include Francis Marion University and Florence-Darlington Technical College.
