“Holy Thursday through Jewish Eyes: Light from the Dead Sea Scrolls”
Modern Americans think Jesus just celebrated “a farewell meal to remember him by” on his last night with his disciples, but that’s simply not what was going on in the Upper Room. The Dead Sea Scrolls help us understand Jesus’ words and deeds in the Upper Room like ancient Jews. It resolves apparent contradictions in the Gospels, as well as show how thoroughly “Jewish” the Eucharist really is. You’ll understand the Eucharist better and receive it more intensely!
Dr. John Bergsma is Associate Professor of Theology at the Franciscan University of Steubenville, in Steubenville, Ohio. He holds the M.Div. and Th.M. degrees from Calvin Seminary, Grand Rapids, Michigan, and served as a Protestant pastor for four years before entering the Catholic Church in 2001 while pursuing a Ph.D. in Theology from the University of Notre Dame.
