Overview

The Finance Office assists the Bishop, his staff, and others responsible for the temporalities of the Diocese to fulfill the diocesan mission. Responsibilities include accounting, investment management, financial analysis, budgetary management, and oversight of parishes and schools (including compliance with diocesan and civil laws, regulations, and policies). The office provides accounting services for most diocesan departments and Catholic Charities.

The Diocese of Charleston is seeking an experienced Reporting Staff Accountant to join their team. The Reporting Staff Accountant is directly responsible for establishing a working relationship of integrity and trust with all sectors of the organization throughout the state of South Carolina.

Responsibilities

  • The Reporting Staff Accountant is directly responsible for establishing a working relationship of integrity and trust with all sectors of the organization throughout the state of South Carolina.
  • This will require the Reporting Accountant to use independent thought and creativity in guiding the different locations’ staff through the accounting process, as well as the technical and procedural challenges.
  • This position will be instrumental in ensuring the success of this program at all levels and creating a successful working partnership with all involved to ensure the financial needs, concerns, and queries of all are met.
  • The Staff Accountant is responsible for receiving and inputting the financial data.
  • Duties will also include preparing sales and use tax filings, W-9’s 1099’s, etc. & overseeing and managing financial analysis as it relates to the institution’s profit and loss statement, and adherence to accounting guidelines.
  • Monitor and oversee risk analysis of the organization’s financial viability in conjunction with D&L loan repayment ability and future financial/capital planning.
  • Works with financially challenged locations to resolve problems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is required.
  • Thorough understanding of accounting principles.
  • General experience in an office setting is necessary.
  • Proficiency with ADP, Sylogist, and Microsoft 365 applications is a plus.
  • Attention to detail is a must.
  • Minimum accurate typing speed of 40 wpm.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, multi-tasking, and task prioritization.
