SUMMARY : As a bookkeeper, the candidate will need to keep records of financial transactions for the parish by performing the following duties:

· Verifies, allocates, and posts details of business transactions to subsidiary, expense, and revenue accounts in journals and computer files from documents such as sales slips, invoices, receipts, deposit slips, checks, statements, and computer printouts. Summarizes details in computer files and transfers data to general ledger.

· Reconciles and balances accounts and bank statements.

· Compiles reports to show statistics such as cash receipts and expenditures, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and other items pertinent to the operation of the parish.

· Submits monthly transaction sheets to diocese. Prepares budget adjustment logs as necessary. Responds to budget questions from diocese staff.

· Determines deductions for withholding.

· Prepares withholding, Social Security, and other tax payments and reports on a quarterly and end-of-the-year basis.

· Calculates and prepares checks to reimburse priest(s) for Mass celebrations.

· Retrieves, with an escort, contribution bags from the church every week. Delivers bags to volunteer counters. Reviews their count report and deposit slip. Corrects discrepancies with counter representative as needed. Insures deposit to bank before the end of the day.

· Makes deposits as needed for walk-in donations.

· Assists the Finance Committee in the preparation of the parish budget. Attends Finance Committee meetings when requested to do so.

· Prepares annual financial report to parishioners.

· Assists pastor in ensuring that all office activities are in compliance with parish/diocesan policies and regulations.

· Assists in answering the phone and in receiving visitors when necessary.

· Performs other duties assigned by the supervisor or the pastor.

· Good knowledge of Church teachings

· Good computer skills (hardware and software programs)

· Bi-lingual (English and Spanish)

· Organized

· Self-motivated

Salary: Salary to commensurate with experience.
