Decree Erecting the Personal Parish of St. Thomas More, Columbia, South Carolina Whereas St. Thomas More, Columbia, South Carolina, was established as a pastoral center in 1953 under the initial care of the Franciscan Fathers of the Province of the Most Holy Name so as to meet spiritual needs of the students, faculty, and families of the University of South Carolina; it is now deemed necessary to form a new Catholic Community within the Diocese of Charleston. Having sought and heard the counsel of the Presbyteral Council of the Diocese of Charleston on September 15, 2014, and in accordance with the norms of canons 515 ยง1-3, and 518, and by testimony of this document; I hereby erect the Personal Parish of St. Thomas More in Columbia, South Carolina, to serve the Catholic Faithful of the University of South Carolina community.

I direct that this decree be published on the website for the Diocese of Charleston, sccatholic.org, which will be presumed the official notification of this action.

The erection of St. Thomas More Parish in Columbia is to become effective October 12, 2014, nothing the contrary withstanding. Given at Charleston, South Carolina, on the 3rd day of October 2014.
