School Nurse

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for providing medical assistance to students in K-3 to 5th grade and reports to the principal. S/he will also complete multiple tasks each day ranging from assessing minor injuries requesting emergency services. Some duties may include:

·      Conducting student hearing and vision screenings

·      Educating students on hygiene and safety practices

·      Dispensing prescription medications to students per physician instructions

·      Verifying vaccination records

·      Taking students’ temperatures when fever is suspected

·      Administering first aid and CPR

·      Treating minor injuries such as cuts, scrapes, and bruises

·      Contacting parents and/or guardians when students are ill or injured

·      Works Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm

Qualifications:

·      Meet all of the SC Department of Education regarding licensing, registration and background checks from the Diocese of Charleston

·      At least two years of relevant experience preferred

·      Bachelor of Science in Nursing required

·      Basic knowledge of applicable laws and nursing practice regulations and standards

·      Demonstrated organization, leadership, and time management skills

·      Ability to work with little direct supervision

·      Responsible for planning the school’s Annual Health Fair in April

·      Serves on the Health and Wellness Committee
