DESCRIPTION:The Feast Day of Saint Kateri Tekakwitha\, patron saint of traditional ecology\, Indigenous Peoples\, and care for creation.   Join us for Mass at St. Martin de Porres in Columbia on Friday\, July 14\, 2023\, at 12 Noon as we celebrate our First Native American Saint in the United States.  Let us call on her for our ecology\, the challenges of Native Americans today and a greater care for God’s Creation.   When three or more are gathered in his name God is in their mist.  Let us celebrate the gifts our Native American brothers and sisters bring to the Church.  Father Michael Okere is our celebrant and Deacon Larry Deschaine  will deliver the homily.  Deacon Larry Deschaine is the second Native American deacon to be ordained in the Diocese of Charleston.   Kathy Nelson and Keepers of the Word Drum Team will lead the congregation in song.   All are invited!

DESCRIPTION:The first Native American Saint\, Kateri Tekakwitha feast day is July 14th. She is known as ” Lily of the Mohawks.” Kateri lived a life of holiness and virtue while facing many obstacles and opposition within her tribe. St. Kateri’s feast day will be recognized at the 5:00 pm mass at St. Martin de Porres Church on Saturday\, July 13\, 2024. Father Michael Okere will be the celebrant and Deacon Larry Deschaine will represent our Native American Catholics and deliver the homily. Kathy Nelson and the Keepers of the Word Drum Team will provide music. There will be a reception following the Mass. All are invited to celebrate the Mass with our Native brothers and sisters in Christ on this honorable occasion. No registration necessary.
