SUMMARY:'Mary - An Oratorio' Concert
DESCRIPTION:“Mary” is a full length oratorio for choir and orchestra. It will premiere Dec. 4 at 4:00 p.m. at Mepkin Abbey\, 1098 Mepkin Abbey Road in Moncks Corner. \nThe oratorio is a companion English version of the “Maria” German oratorio which used verses from Luther’s 1545 Bible. The libretto presents various cameos in the life of Mary in the Gospels\, from the Annunciation to the Wedding Feast at Cana and the Crucifixion\, Mary at the foot of the Cross and the Woman Clothed with the Sun. \nThese passages are interspersed with settings of the traditional Latin hymns in honor of Mary\, and a setting of Our Father in Latin and English along with some antiphons from the liturgy. It is hoped that the performance of this work would bring Christians of all backgrounds closer to Jesus and in honor of Mary\, blessed among all women. \nThe oratorio is composed by world-renowned Catholic composer Cormac O’Duffy\, currently music minister at St. Theresa the Little Flower Church in Summerville. \nTickets are $40 and on sale now\, and space is limited. Click here to purchase.
